Systems Thinking Rubrics

Student Assessment

Developed by Catalina Foothills School District and Waters Foundation Systems Thinking in Schools Partnership 08/24/07

  • Beginner (instructor use) – These rubrics were designed for use with primary students and/or students just beginning to learn systems thinking habits, concepts and tools.
  • Beginner  (student use) – These rubrics were reworded based on the instructor version to simplify the language and systems thinking terminology. They were designed for use with primary students and/or students just beginning to learn systems thinking habits, concepts and tools.
  • Concept (student and instructor) – These rubrics were designed for intermediate trough high school students and/or students who have reached a more advanced understanding of systems thinking habits, concepts and tools.

Educator Assessment

  • Systems Thinking Instructional Capacity rubric (coach and self assessment) includes the areas of Planning, Instruction, Habits of a Systems Thinker, Systems Thinking Tools, Transfer, and Student Work.
